    Cloudband Motifs

The cloudband or tchi, is a wavy ribbon-like motif generally formed in the shape of a horse shoe. Derived from Chinese art, it can be found on a variety of media from the Islamic world. It was introduced via the Mongols in the 13th century and is often depicted as a design element within a greater, more complex pattern.
