Dr. Mounia Chekhab-Abudaya
Curator
Dr. Mounia Chekhab-Abudaya has been the Curator for North Africa and Iberia at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), Doha since 2012. She completed her Ph.D. in Islamic Art History and Archaeology at the Pantheon Sorbonne University in Paris, with a specialisation in the Maghreb and the Sahara regions.
Dr. Chekhab-Abudaya taught Islamic Art at Bachelor’s and Master’s levels for four years at the Pantheon Sorbonne and INALCO and helped at the Department of Islamic Art at the Louvre Museum in Paris. At MIA, she has curated Hajj – The Journey through Art (2013 – 2014) in collaboration with the British Museum, Building Our Collection: Ceramics of Al Andalus (2014), and Qajar Women (2015).
Julia Tugwell
Assistant Curator
Julia Tugwell has been Assistant Curator at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), Doha since May 2015. She holds a Master’s degree in Islamic Art History from the University of Toronto, and previously worked in the Research Department at the Orientalist Museum, Doha. At MIA, she assisted in the research and preparation for the exhibition and publication The Hunt: Princely Pursuits in Islamic Lands in 2015.
