The Museum of Islamic Art, in partnership with East Wing, presents “Radiant“, a contemporary photographic exhibition featuring artworks by German artist Antje Hanebeck. The eleven handmade "photogravure" prints on display are her photographic interpretations of the space and architecture of the iconic MIA building.
The images in ‘Radiant’ are an insightful photographic meditation on light and space. With the use of an antique photo-making process, the artist creates a new -- and very contemporary -- visual experience of atmosphere, light, and shadow. The result is a fresh look at the museum's physical space, revealing another interpretation of the design by the master of modern architecture, I. M. Pei.
This unique combination of contemporary artistic sensibilties, deeply informed by historical processes, finds a natural home in MIA -- the space and collection which the photogravures celebrate, and the institution which sheds light on the many links between the present and the past.
