This Tang Dynasty (618–907) bowl was clearly made for the Islamic market due to the inclusion of an Arabic inscription which likely reads: abduhu (His [God's] servant). This style of bowl with the green splashes and tin-opacified glaze is a direct imitation of the types of wares being produced in Iran and Iraq at the time, which in turn had originally been inspired by Chinese porcelain wares.
