The ‘pomegranate vase’ pattern is one of the oldest field ornamentations and can be found on many carpets throughout Asia and the Islamic world. As is typical for this type of design, the pomegranate trees are depicted growing from vases located along the ends of the carpet. The stylized patterns repeat and meet in the middle creating two identical halves.
